UMATILLA With wins in five events, including the final three on the track, the Imbler Panthers girls almost won their first track and field meet of the season Friday.

Grant Union had 80 points to win it, a half-point ahead of Imbler in the team standings.

Imblers Tiffany Rasmussen won the javelin, Liz Woody won the 800 meters, Jessica Fulfer won the 3,000 and Rachel Lowe won the 300 hurdles. In addition, the 1,600 relay team beat Grant Union.

With three events left, Grant Union led the team race, with Elgin in second. But the Huskies did not score in the final three events, and Imbler got 25 points to challenge the Prospectors. Elgin finished fourth, with Ashley Rysdam winning the pole vault.

The Joseph boys were also second; at 101 points they were 17 behind Stanfield.

Marcus Wells won two events for the Eagles, the 400 and the javelin.

Tigers rule high jump

HERMISTON Three members of the La Grande track and field team did well in the girls high jump at the Hermiston Time Trials Friday.

Kristin Brogdon captured second with a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches. Amanda Timm and Kathryn Ely placed third and fourth respectively with 4-10.

It was exceptional to have three girls jump that well, La Grande track and field coach Joe Sandoz said.

Casey Fenwick was second in the boys long jump with a 20-3 finish.

Sandoz said Fenwick had a very good early season and he was able to jump, even though he was nursing a sore calf muscle.

Michael Schoenfelder finished fourth in the boys 1,500. Chris Jones placed third in the boys 110 high hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles. Malia Anderson took fourth in the girls 1,500.

La Grande will head to the Pendleton Buck Classic next Saturday.
