JORDAN VALLEY USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BEAT COVE
By The Observer
COVE A strong second half by Jordan Valley ended Coves football season Friday.
The Mustangs led only 8-6 at halftime but exploded for 38 points in the final two quarters of the 46-6 Old Oregon League win.
Gracian Uhalde ran for two scores, Shaun Lequerica caught two short touchdown passes and Mark Freese ran for 134 yards and one touchdown for Jordan Valley, which clinched the leagues second spot in the district playoffs.
The second half didnt go well for Cove (3-6 overall, 2-3 league).
We threw a couple of interceptions, and that didnt help, Cove coach Rich Thew said. We had a couple guys that were hurting, and that kind of slowed them down. Toward the end, we were taking chances.
Jordan Valley intercepted Coves Wade Wright and Jason Hagey three times. Coves offense got the most from Euell Macke, who had 55 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Wright scored Coves only touchdown, the first of the game, on a 4-yard run in the second quarter.
Jordan Valley took the lead just before halftime with a 7-yard run by Uhalde and a Mike Johnson catch on the two-point conversion.
