VALE BOYS UPSET LA GRANDE 51-48

VALE — The La Grande boys find themselves out of contention for the Greater Oregon League title after Saturday's 51-48 league basketball loss to Vale.

"It ruins our chances as far as league goes," La Grande coach Aaron Mills said.

The Tigers (11-12 overall, 7-3 GOL) sit in third place with two remaining league games today at home against first-place Ontario and McLoughlin in Milton-Freewater Friday. The Tigers did clinch a playoff spot earlier this week when Vale (5-6 in GOL) was beaten by Baker.

Baker (9-2 GOL) has one more league game at Riverside.

"We started slow," Mills said. "We were looking ahead to Ontario a little bit."

The Tigers came out lethargic at the start of the first quarter and again in the third, he said.

Mills said the Vikings were very physical, and the Tigers shied away from Vale's contact.

"You know, we just didn't play well," Mills said. "Vale did."
