JOHN DAY — A young contingent of Eagles failed to get off the ground in the season opening tournament Friday and Saturday. Joseph traveled to John Day without four senior players. “It was a good chance to see the young kids out on the field,” first-year head coach Tony Gross said. “We’ve had two practices outside in the last two and half weeks. Now we know what we need to work on.” The Eagles opened with a 14-0 loss to Stanfield, and failed to record a hit in the game. A 14-2 loss to Santiam Christian followed. Wade Morton and Tyler Masters recorded RBI singles for the Eagles. Edison picked up a double. Joseph wrapped up the opening weekend with a 20-2 loss to Vale. The Eagles will take a full team to the Orofino Tournament Friday.
