JOSEPH — The Joseph girls basketball team will not be losing its No. 1 ranking this week. The Eagles (5-0) had little trouble with Wallowa Friday night, winning 69-41.

“We’re getting better,” Joseph head coach Lance Homan said. “We moved a little better. We shot the ball better. We just looked together out there. I’m sure being home had some help in that.”

Friday’s game was the first at home for the Eagles.

The Cougars (2-5) fell for the third straight game.

Shelby Harshman led the Eagles with a game-high 22 points. Nicke Parks added 19 points.

Kuulei Delatori and Judith Shike led Wallowa with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Joseph will travel to Echo on Monday for its next game. Wallowa has a short break before hosting the Wallowa Lions Tournament on Dec. 29-30.

JOSEPH — Here is a warning for Oregon’s Class 1A: Wallowa boys basketball team is a definite contender this season.

The Cougars (6-1) won their fourth straight game Friday night beating Joseph, 55-38.

“The game started out pretty tight as I expected,” Wallowa head coach Warren Wilson said. “Tavin (Hurley) is great inside for them. We played great team defense. Right now we are playing great as a unit.”

Hurley had a great first quarter before twisting an ankle and leaving the game in the second quarter.

“He’s a great kid and it’s unfortunate to see that happen to him again. He’s a senior this year and has not had the chance to play a lot his career,” Eagles head coach Ron Lathrop said.

“We were playing pretty well with them until he went down.”

Hurley led Joseph with 11 points, all scored in the first 12 minutes of the game.

Tyler Harshfield scored a season-high 26 points for the Cougars. He finished with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Wallowa’s Mark Jamerson nearly had a double-double finishing, with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Cougars shot only 33 percent from the field and missed all 10 of their three-pointers attempted.

The Eagles travel to Echo  Monday, and Wallowa hosts the Wallowa Lions Tournament on Dec. 29-30.
