LA GRANDE GIRL GOLFERS FIGHT COLD
PENDLETON The rain and cold weather made the Wildhorse Invitational unbearable at times, but that didn't stop the La Grande girls golf team from taking third place Monday.
La Grande's Kelli Greenough returned to the course and shot an 85, good for second place overall.
In addition, Elizabeth Esser tied for fifth with Keri Dickey of Southridge with 90s.
Hanford won the tournament with a team score of 371. Southridge was second (382) and La Grande had 402.
La Grande coach Lonnie Myers said the tournament was a test of determination, dedication and skill in adverse conditions.
"I am so proud of each member of the team," Myers said. "They played through pain to finish. Kelli and Elizabeth Garton both were recovering from the flu."
He also complimented Bess Buzzard and Aubrey Glaze for their fortitude. The varsity will play at Milton-Freewater Friday.
