LA GRANDE GIRLS BEAT VALE; SOLIDIFY HOLD ON SECOND

VALE — The La Grande girls beat Vale 57-32 to solidify their second-place position in the Greater Oregon League.

La Grande (8-2 in GOL, 15-7 overall) was led by Christie Weaver with 14 points, while Kayla Crouch scored 11.

Ontario beat Burns Friday, which puts the Hilanders at 7-4 in the GOL, a game-and a-half behind La Grande. Ontario is 10-0 in league and likely will win the GOL championship, though La Grande is mathematically alive for a league title.

La Grande hosts Ontario at 6 p.m. today in the girls' final home game of the year. La Grande probably will host a playoff game March 8.

IMBLER KEEPS LEAGUS TITLE HOPES ALIVE

ENTERPRISE — The Imbler basketball girls used a huge second half to run away from Enterprise Friday 63-38.

The win keeps Imbler's hopes of sharing the Wapiti League title alive. Imbler is 11-2 in league (20-3 overall) and hosts first-place Grant Union (12-1 in league) today.

The loss also means that Enterprise (6-7, 7-14) must win against Nyssa today to grab the final playoff slot in the league. Enterprise and Union (5-8) are fighting for that final playoff spot.

"I can tell you right now my team will be motivated (against Nyssa)," said Enterprise coach Mike Crawford.

Imbler had four girls in double figures. The Panthers were led by Leanne Foster and Amy Clerget with 16 each. Imbler's Liz Woody and Tiffany Rasmussen each scored 12.

Enterprise was led by Lacey Nobles with 17, while Caitlin Baird scored 10. Nobles also had 11 rebounds.

UNION GIRLS LOSE; BUT STILL ALIVE FOR PLAYOFFS

HALFWAY — The Union basketball girls lost to Pine-Eagle on the road Friday, but they are still clinging to playoff hopes.

Union (5-8 in Wapiti League, 9-12 overall) came into the game on a three-game winning streak as the Bobcats have overcome a rough start to their season and the loss of two major players to stick their noses right into the thick of the playoff hunt.

Union is still a game behind Enterprise (6-7). Enterprise needs to be upset by a weak Nyssa team in Enterprise today for Union to have a chance.

Union hosts Joseph today, and must beat the Eagles to stay alive. If Union and Enterprise tie at 6-8 for the fourth and final playoff slot in the Wapiti League, they will have a playoff.

Coach Wayne Herron said Union didn't shoot well against Pine-Eagle (11-2, 18-5), but overall, "we didn't play that bad. We only had 10 turnovers."

Union was led by Jana Brotherton with 18 points. Kallin Prince scored nine.
