REDMOND Marist earned its fourth straight Class 3A/2A/1A state girls golf title Tuesday.

The Spartans of Eugene shot a 350, flying past La Grande and Seaside with a two-day score of 727 at the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 3A/2A/1A Girls State Golf Championships at the Eagle Crest Resort Ridge Course.

La Grande was in first after Monday with a four-stroke lead, but the Tigers were the only team in the top five to not improve on Mondays round. Marist shaved 27 strokes Tuesday, while second-place Seaside cut 14 strokes.

Molalla moved into third place from a first-day fifth after cutting 24 strokes. La Grande brought home the fourth-place trophy.

Most of the teams played better the second day. We couldnt seem to get charged, La Grande coach Candy Brooks said. Our girls didnt play bad at all, they were simply outplayed by the top three teams.

La Grandes top golfer was sophomore Kelli Greenough, who had another 85 for a two-day 170, good for a sixth-place tie and all-tournament honors.

Senior Kelli Tucker had another 90 for a two-day 180. But La Grandes other three golfers shot in the 100s. Summer Presley shot a 100 for a two-day 207, Carrie Waldrop shot a 104 for a 202 and Nicole Lewis shot a 110 for a 208.
