La Grande proved Union County wasnt untouchable Tuesday.

The two teams entered the championship semifinal game of the District 3 Girls Little League Majors Softball Tournament with identical 2-0 records, but Union County sported back-to-back no-hit shutouts.

That notion was spoiled in the top of the first inning as La Grande scored six runs off five hits, three errors and one walk en route to a 14-9 victory.

Looking at a 6-0 deficit, Union County didnt roll over. Instead, it battled back by scoring one run in the bottom of the first and tying the game with a five-run second inning off four walks and two hits.

Union County jumped ahead 8-6 after the third inning, but La Grande found its offensive prowess in the top of the fourth by scoring six runs on four hits and two walks to end Unions comeback bid.

Kelsey Steele, Calli Wetstein and Bobbi Durrand led La Grande with two hits apiece.

Mandy Griffin and Allie Burgess had two hits each to pace Union County.

Union County plays Pendleton, a 14-11 winner over Baker City Tuesday, in the consolation bracket at 5:30 p.m. today. Union beat Pendleton 12-0 Sunday.

The winner of the Union County/Pendleton contest will face La Grande Thursday. All games are being played at Pioneer Park.
