STATE CHAMPS: La Grande Wrestling Club members Tracey Huffman, left, and John Tuck won their divisions at the Oregon state championships in April and are off to regionals later this month. (The Observer/ PIERRE LaBOSSIERE).

Two La Grande Wrestling Club members will be making return trips to the USA Wrestling Regionals later this month, and perhaps that's just the beginning of a longer road.

Tracey Huffman and John Tuck, both 12 years old, will be competing in Butte, Mont. June 16-21 at the USA Wrestling Western Regionals.

Tuck, a state champion in both freestyle and Greco-Roman in his 100-pound division, has been to regionals three times before and has placed as high as fourth. He's got high goals for this trip.

"I want to win it. I've been there so many times," he said. The regionals champions get to move on to nationals in Enid, Okla.

Huffman came in first in freestyle wrestling in his 75-pound division at the Oregon championships in Portland in April. He came in second in Greco-Roman.

Huffman wrestles in the La Grande club along with his younger brother Travis.

"(Wrestling) is fun. You get trophies and stuff, (but) you have to earn it," he said.

Tuck joked, "You get to miss a lot of school" when asked what he likes about wrestling.

Both Tuck and Huffman acknowledge that wrestling is a tough sport. It takes a lot of stamina and there's plenty of bruises and sore muscles sometimes.

"It's fun to be tough sometimes," Huffman said.
