LA GRANDE'S JOHNSON WINS CATHERINE CREEK SCAMPER

La Grande's Dane Johnson won the Catherine Creek Cross Country Scamper Friday by 26 seconds, helping to lead the Tiger boys to a second-place overall finish.

The Union and Wallowa girls also had a strong meet, finishing in second and third place respectively. The Baker boys and girls teams both won.

Johnson won the event with a time of 17:40. La Grande's Travis Dixson finished seventh with a time of 18:34.

The Enterprise boys finished sixth, while Wallowa came in seventh and Union eighth.

For the girls, Hayley Oveson of Wallowa finished second with a time of 20:47, while Union's Ashley Sarratt finished third with a time of 21:42 and Shannon Mitchell fourth with a time of 21:53.

Other top 10 girls included Jessica Fulfer, who finished seventh with a time of 22:14 and Wallowa's Larae Guillory, who came in ninth with a time of 23:16.

The Enterprise girls finished sixth, while La Grande finished seventh.

Host coach Steve Sheehy of Union said 208 competitors from 13 schools competed in the event. He was pleased with how both his boys and girls teams did, and he pointed out that the Bobcats' Klamath Walker came in first for the junior varsity with a time of 20:01.
