LHS boys fall to Lewiston, Moscow

LEWISTON, Idaho —The La Grande boys basketball team lost both of its games this weekend at the Inland Cellular Bengal Shootout in Lewiston, Idaho.

The Tigers fell to Lewiston 47-37 Friday and lost to Moscow 62-36 Saturday.

Against Lewiston, La Grande led 19-16 at halftime but got outscored 12-5 in the third quarter and 19-13 in the fourth.

“We didn’t play great,” coach Mark Carollo said.

“We had 22 turnovers. We just didn’t handle the ball well. They sat back in a zone, and we just haven’t had much time to work on playing against the zone.

“We were flat.”

Troy Williams had a team-high 10 points to lead La Grande.

Tyson Wicklander added eight, while Jake Powell chipped in six.

Kaleb White, Johnd Bodfish and Brandon Dall scored four.

The Tigers ran into a talented Moscow squad Saturday.

The Bears grabbed a 14-8 lead in the first quarter but outscored La Grande 26-6 in the second quarter to take a 40-14 lead into halftime.

That lead proved too much to overcome and Moscow cruised to victory.

“They jumped on us,” Carollo said.

“They played a man-to-man, full-court defense and we came out soft. We need to handle that pressure better.”

Williams led the Tigers again with 12 points.

Wicklander and Kurt Boyd both scored four, while Powell and Derek Yohannan added three.

La Grande will travel to face Vale Friday before returning home to host Nyssa Tuesday.
