PAYETTE — The La Grande boys soccer team failed to avenge an earlier season loss, falling at Payette Saturday, 4-0. The Pirates shut-out the Tigers 3-0 on Sept. 4 in La Grande. “Actually we played really well,” Tigers’ head coach Zachary Lauritzen said. “We got off to a rough start. There seems to be a gate in front of the opposition’s goal for us right now.” Payette’s first goal came one minute into the match. The Pirates capitalized off of a questionable call and made a penalty kick. “It was a bogus call. The ball hit one of our defenders in the elbow and the referee called a hand ball. I thought it ruined the game,” Lauritzen said. The Tigers return to their home turf Thursday against Ontario. On Sept. 20, the Tigers fell at Ontario, 3-0.
Tigers win on the road
PAYETTE — The La Grande girls soccer team picked up its first road win Saturday at Payette, 5-4. The Tigers (4-3-1) (2-3-1) scored all of their goals in the second half. “This was a completely different game for us,” La Grande head coach Sarah Androlewicz said. “We felt like Payette was a level down to us. We felt like the better team.” Jenna Montgomery finished the game with a hat-trick for the Tigers. La Grande’s other goals came from Chelsea Mitchell and Samantha Densmore. The win was the first time this season the Tigers had consecutive victories. La Grande is currently fourth-place in the Class 4A, Special District 7 standings. The Tigers host Ontario (4-2) (4- 1) Thursday. |
