LHS dropped by Pioneers

MILTON-FREEWATER — The La Grande football team continued to struggle Friday against McLoughlin.

In a Greater Oregon League showdown that has saw the Tigers own the Pioneers in recent years, it was Mac-Hi who came out with an emphatic 42-8 victory over LHS (0-7, 0-2).

The Pioneers used four second-quarter touchdowns to blow a scoreless game wide open.

With 5:02 to play in the first half Jeffery Jones ended a six-play, 58-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run to put McLoughlin on the board.

Four minutes later Jones found the endzone again from five yards out before he punched one in from a yard with 11 seconds to go in the quarter.

Braydon Moller then returned a Brandon Dall interception 50 yards for a touchdown as the clock expired on the first half.

La Grande didn’t score until 7:24 left in the fourth quarter when Jake Chamberlain ran in from a yard out.

The Pioneers added two more touchdowns in the quarter to runaway with the win.

La Grande had 159 yards of total offense, led by Chamberlain’s 116 yards rushing on 28 carries.

Jared Rogers had 50 yards on 10 attempts. Tyson Wicklander and Dall each completed just one pass.

McLoughlin had 273 yards of offense. Jones finished with 207 yards rushing on 40 carries and had four touchdowns.

Moller had 21 yards on the ground to go along with one score.

The Pioneers improve to 2-4 with the victory and sit at 1-1 in the GOL.

La Grande has just one game left in the season. The Tigers play host to Baker Friday at Community Stadium.

The Bulldogs (6-1, 2-0) are ranked No. 3 in the OSAA. BHS is coming off a 19-13 victory over Ontario Friday.
