PORTLAND — The La Grande 9- and 10-year-old Little League baseball team is one win from the state championship game.

Tuesday the La Grande All-Stars defeated Klamath Falls, 13-1, in its final game in pool play.

“I thought we came out of the gates real slow,” La Grande manager Kraig Jacobs said. “I was worried we were having a repeat of our first game versus Murrayhill.

“But, the guys pulled together and played very well after a couple rough innings. We were hitting the ball, just right at their fielders.”

La Grande trailed Klamath Falls (0-3) after two innings,

1-0. But La Grande (2-1) scored three runs in the top of the third and spread the lead to 8-1 after five innings.

Jake Workinger threw most of the game for La Grande and G.T. Blackman came in to close.

La Grande will be the second seed from Pool B and will await to play the winner of Pool A Friday at Parkrose Little League.

As of this morning, Bend North leads the five-team Pool A with a 2-0 record, but still has two games to be played. Hollywood is right behind at 2-1 and Reynolds is 1-1.

“Bend North appears to be the strongest team,” Jacobs said. “Although Hollywood is very good as well. We won’t get to see them play. We’re going to come home since we have two days idle. Monday was long enough without a game.”

Murrayhill finished first in Pool B after beating Grants Pass American, 24-4, Tuesday.
