PENDLETON — What if your job was on the line every day? For members of the La Grande boys golf team that’s the realization. The Tigers cruised down I-84 to Ontario and two members of the team made their first varsity start Wednesday — Jason Montgomery and Brad Garinger. “It’s helping the team out,” La Grande head coach Ron Evans said. “Every day is a competition to see who’s going to travel for the tournament.” The Ontario course tested the green golfers. Winds whistled through the 18-hole course at 20- to 30-mph. Montgomery carded a 111. Garinger finished with a 130. “Not bad for the first time out,” Evans said. “This course can eat people up when the wind is blowing. We’re taking steps in the right direction.” Mitchell Henry led the Tigers with a round of 87. La Grande will travel to the Powder River Cup hosted by Baker at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
