La Grande extends winning streak to eight Vikings
Tigers return to the court after long layoff, come out firing
VALE — La Grande shook off two week’s worth of cobwebs to pick up its eighth straight win of the season Saturday.
The Tigers made 10 3-points shots en route to a 69-31 win against Vale.
La Grande’s last game was Jan. 3, a 67-47 win over Fruitland, Idaho.
“I was a little nervous to see how we’d play,” La Grande head coach Mark Carollo said. “But, we were able to jump on (Vale) early. We shot the ball well, and the boys were flying around on defense.
“You could tell we got a little tired in different stretches in the game. You can’t simulate everything you experience during a game in practice.”
The Tigers jumped out to a 22-4 lead after one quarter, and allowed single digits in the opening three quarters to the Vikings, taking a 55-15 lead into the fourth quarter.
Tyson Wicklander led La Grande with 15 points. Brandon Dall scored 14 points, while Brandon Cederholm added 12 points.
La Grande will open Greater Oregon League play at home against McLoughlin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“It was really nice to be able to get a game in before the start of the league schedule,” Carollo said. “It gives us some momentum to take into the game.”
