La Grande girls hand Ontario 4-1 loss

The La Grande pack of Lady Tigers handed Ontario’s Tigers a 4-1 loss Friday at the Eastern Oregon University tennis courts. Kata Sebastian-Azola rallied to win the first singles match in three sets over Ontario’s Megan Sokulik. The La Grande senior lost the first set, 7-6, then came back with 6-4 and 6-0 wins. Ashley Orton grabbed a two-set (6-3, 6-4) win over Ontario’s Kaite Phelps in second singles, while La Grande’s Katie Aldrich needed three sets to give the local Tigers a 3-0 sweep of singles Friday. After dropping the first set (3-6), she rebounded with 6-4 and 6-2 wins. In the doubles, Anna Grigsby and Lauren Mills won a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Ontario’s top doubles team.

We have some out there who only picked up a racket about eight days ago,” said La Grande’s Mike Schireman as he watched his team play from courtside. La Grande’s Tanner Willson dropped a two-set decision to Ontario’s top singles player, Valentin Morales. Sage Nakamura of Ontario handed freshman Josh Ebel a 6-2, 6-0 loss in the second singles, while Levi Lewis gave Ontario a sweep of singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sheylan Sands. In doubles, Ontario’s Quincy Sullivan and Bill Garcia handed Derek Yohannen and Caleb Owens of la Grande a 6-0, 6-3 loss.
In the second doubles, Ontario made it a sweep with Alex Gallegos and Kaleb Price’s win over Ebel and Schlaht won the first set, 7-5, then dropped the final two sets by 4-6 and 2-6 scores. |
