ENTERPRISE — The La Grande 11- and 12-year-old Little League baseball team advanced to today’s semifinals as the top seed in the Red Pool after beating Baker County, 8-6, Wednesday. La Grande finished pool play at the District 3 tournament 4-0 with the victory. “This was a battle of two very good hitting ball clubs,” La Grande manager Tony Boyd said. “We played really well. We hit the ball well. Our pitchers threw the ball well.”Especially La Grande’s Troy Williams who threw three shutout innings and stayed under the pitch count allowing him to be available for the semifinal. Kurt Boyd hit a three-run home run that highlighted a six-run second inning for La Grande. Baker County scored five of its six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. La Grande plays against Union County (2-1) today at 2 p.m. and will play the winner of Pendleton (3-0) and Baker County (3-1) Friday for the district title. “We had a few more errors than usual,” Tony Boyd said. “But all in all we hit the ball well and played a pretty good game. “I really haven’t got a chance to see Union County play. I imagine if they got this far they have to be playing good.”
