La Grande wins Dry Side Shootout titles

The La Grande boys and girls cross country teams won titles at the Dry Side Shootout Friday at Eastern Oregon University.

The Tiger boys finished with 35 points, topping second-place Baker with 48 points.

Enterprise finished fourth (86 points) and Elgin finished fifth (133).

Enterprise’s David Ribich won the individual boys title with a time of 14 minutes, 37.7 seconds. Evan Krohn of Baker placed second at 15:41.6.

La Grande placed three racers in the top 10, led by Todd Keniry’s fourth-place finish in 15:47.7. Teammates Elliott Jonasson and Keegan Dutto placed fifth and seventh, respectively.

On the girls side, the Lady Tigers won with 32 points. Enterprise finished second with 42 points and McLoughlin rounded out the top three with 46.

La Grande’s Amanda Welch had the best finish of any local runner, placing second with a time of 18:54.1. Josie Lonai of Mac-Hi won with a time of 18:12.7.

Isabelle Tingelstad of Enterprise finished fifth with a time of 19:35.1, and Union’s Hannah Brazil and Lynn Shoemaker finished sixth and eighth, resectively.

Jackie Wanta of La Grande rounded out the top 10 with a time of 21:31.7.

Union/Cove competes in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. — The Union/Cove cross country team attended the Sunfair Invitational Saturday.

Competing among much larger schools, the Union/Cove boys finished third in the team standings with 119 points, while the Union/Cove girls finished 11th with 244.

The meet runs the varsity races in flights, where each team’s seventh runners run against all the other team’s seventh runners in the same race, while sixth runs against sixth and so on.

Katriel O’Reilly finished fourth in the flight for each team’s No. 2 runners.  She had a time of 18:51.

 Elly Wells, McKenzie Evans, Riley Sheehy, Ken Sipp and Harris Lackey all had strong races as well, according to Union/Cove head coach Steve Sheehy.
