LA GRANDE’S PARKER ROBINSON defeated the California state champion for third place in the 10 and younger 85-pound weight class at the Reno World Championships recently.
RENO, Nev. — La Grande had 12 wrestlers compete in the Reno World Championships recently and Parker Robinson brought home some hardware.
Robinson, competing in the 10 and younger 85-pound weight class, finished third in the open invite tournament that saw 2,900 wrestlers from all over the United States compete in various age and weight classes.
Robinson won his first match and then took a loss, which knocked him into the consolation bracket.
He then won four more matches to win the consolation bracket, defeating this year’s California state champion in the third-place match to finish at 5-1.
“It’s a great accomplishment for Parker,” coach Klel Carson said. “It’s one of the better finishes for a younger wrestler from La Grande.”
Also representing La Grande were Alex Kehr, Blaine Shaw, Corey Isaacson, Cole Rohan, Tyler Isaacson, Ryan Middleton, Dylan McHargue, Caleb Woodworth, Jared Neice, Prestin Armstrong and Taran Hardwick. Jason Kehr helped Carson coach.
“All the kids had a great weekend winning matches, most winning multiple
matches,” Carson said.
It’s safe to say that the future of La Grande wrestling is in steady hands.
