Lady Mounties trip up Warner
LAKE WALES, Fla. — The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team defeated Warner University (Florida) by a 74-59 margin Monday.
Eastern (6-1, 0-0 CCC) came out strong in the first few minutes, scoring 16 unanswerd points before Warner (3-2) was able to score off of a free throw with 12:08 left in the half. The Royals broke the double-digit mark with 8:20 to play on a three by Trenecia Henderson and trailed EOU, 25-10.
The Mountaineers went into halftime up 41-26.
EOU was led by Nicole Redd and Brook Randall with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
At the start of the second half, Warner came out and hit a quick three, cutting EOU’s lead to 12 but that is as close as the Royals would come on the night. Eastern quickly responded with a layup by Korrie Bourn and eventually led by as much as 16.
As a team EOU shot 47 percent from the field and outrebounded Warner 40-27 while forcing 21 turnovers.
All of the Mountaineers saw playing time as Randall led all scorers with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Teammates Nicole Redd and Nikki Osborne added 15 and 12 points, respectively, while Chayla Jones contributed with 12 rebounds.
Warner was led by Allison Porter and Brooke Garmon with 12 points apiece.
Eastern returns to take on Westminster College Friday in Caldwell, Idaho.
