ONTARIO — The La Grande softball team eased past Ontario Saturday in a Greater Oregon League doubleheader.

The Lady Tigers swept their rivals, taking the opener 16-3 before rolling to a 16-0 decision in Game 2.

“Our bats came alive,” LHS head coach Kevin Kohr said. “We’re starting to hit top-to-bottom and our defense is coming around. I like where we’re headed.”

LHS blew Game 1 open with a 10-run second inning.

Madison Elliott had a home run, while Brandi Blackman added a triple and Denise Comfort had a double.

Kali Avila got the win, going three innings before being relieved by Emily Lawrence.

La Grande finished with 14 hits, while Ontario had six hits and four errors.

LHS strung together 19 hits in Game 2, including eight doubles.

Olivia Trotter was 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs, while Elyse Humphreys and Avery Albrecht were both 3-for-3 with a double.

Kendall Kirkland, Elliott, Avila and Auslin McDaniel all added a double as well.

Marissa Carson went three innings in the circle to get the win for LHS.

“The girls stayed focused. Ontario has decent pitching, but they looked for pitches to drive. We hit the ball hard,” Kohr said.

La Grande is now 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the GOL. Ontario is 2-9 overall and 0-4 in league.

LHS hosts Baker on Friday starting at 2 p.m.
