Leopards open in John Day

JOHN DAY — The Cove volleyball team opened its season at the Grant Union Tournament last weekend.

Despite being eliminated by Heppner 2-0, Leopards’ coach Darcy Carreiro had a lot to be pleased about.

“The girls played really well. It was a whole team effort all day.

“We know exactly what we need to work on and that is some little things.

“We will hopefully scratch some of those off our list this week and continue to move forward with progress each week,” Carreiro said.

Natalie Gerdes finished with five serving aces and five digs, while Nikoa Murchison had seven aces.

Hannah Hulse had 14 kills and six aces, while Kellie Nostrandt added 13 aces for the day.

Hailey Hulse and Renee Mills finished with eight kills and four kills,

Cove plays at Echo Friday starting at 2 p.m.
