Live at class 2A/1A softball finals in Corvallis

Live writers notebook from Oregon State University softball field in Corvallis for the OSAA Class 2A/1A state championships featuring Union and Irrigon.

Irrigon  100 000 0 - 1 4 0

Union  000 000 0 - 0 2 2

Great season for Union. Great story for Irrigon. Jordann Roberts was named player of the game for Union and Wright was the player of the game for Irrigon.

Bottom of the seventh: Here we go, three more outs. Union has its 2,3,4 hitters coming up starting with Jordann Roberts. Both teams' crowds are getting loud. Bloop right over the second basemen's glove. One on as Riomondo steps in. Riomondo walks. Irrigon players and coaches come to calm down Wright. Anderson up. Shot back to Wright she knocks it down and throws the runner out at third. Wild pitch Union advances to second and third. Poe strikes out. Wyant up. Wyant strikes out. Union leaves tying run on third. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the seventh: Reynolds still on the mound. The storyline will either be Union's second straight state title or Irrigon's first team state title in the school's four year history. Stanger strikes out on a 3-2 count. The eight hitter up for the Knights. Reynolds grabs a ball hit right back at her throws her out. Tolar up. Tolar down. Another strikeout for Reynolds. It's the pitching duel we expected. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Bottom of the sixth: The Bobcats are down to their final six outs. Becca Riomondo steps up for Union in the eight hole. She grounds back to Wright for an out. Bauer is up for Union. She goes down on three straight pitches. Top of the order for Union. Reynolds steps in. She fouls two back and strikes out on the third pitch. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the sixth: Times running out for Union. It's now sunny and the perfect time to make a run. Union has 1 hit and 2 errors. The Knights have 3 hits and no errors. Wright up for Irrigon. She grounds out. Reynolds strikes out Campos. Coffman takes a 2-2 pitch down the left field line for a single. Coffman steals to second but Reynolds strikes out Mego for the third out. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Bottom of the fifth: Union gets their first hit from Jessica Poe with a bloop to right field. She slides into first and her jersey goes from red to brown. Wyant up for Union. Wright snags a shot back at her throws out Poe at second. The second basemen bobbles the ball and ends the threat of a double play. Wyant on first and Josephson up. Wow. Josephson strikes out and Wyant leaves the bag thinking it was the third out and Irrigon throws to first while shes off the bag for the third out. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the fifth: The Knights get a two out single but can do nothing with it. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Bottom of the fourth: Reynolds gives a ball a ride to right but a nice catch silences that. Union flys out the final two batters of the inning. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the fourth: Wright sends a bomb to right field but Kimball barely has to move to make the grab. Campos hits a ball down the left field line for a single. Reynolds avoids a big problem as she strikes out the final two batters with Irrigon runners on second and third. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Bottom of the third: A break in the showers, we have 30 percent until 8 p.m. Reports from Salem are not good at the moment, a lot of rain there as well. The bad thing is these fields host 3 games today and 3 tomorrow. Josephson up for Union. Wright is in a groove as she strikes out Josephson and Kimball comes up for the Bobcats. Kimball swings a high fastball and strikes out. Tolar strikes out and Union goes down 1-2-3. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the third: Reynolds strikes out No. 9 hitter. The Knights move to the top of their order. Henrichs bloops one just into foul territory, may have been a double. Instead she pops out and McCabe makes a great catch in the mud. Bunt failed as Reynolds throws out runner. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Bottom of the second: Anderson walks. Then steals to second but theres a debate whether she was thrown out or not. She is out. Poe is up to bat for the Bobcats. Poe grounds out. Wyant at the plate. She grounds out. Story so far is Irrigon has not seem affected at all by the weather fielding the ball. Union has had a couple of hiccups. There is standing water around all the bases at the moment. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the second: We have our first slight delay. Maintenance is putting some more dirt around the mound. It's getting pretty muddy in the infield. The coaches have got together and it looks like they want a delay of some kind. But we press on. My computer just shut off from water. So bare with me folks.

Reynolds strikes out the first batter. 3-2 count and Reynolds strikes out another. Reynolds walks the batter. Irrigon steals to second. Reynolds strikes out another. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Bottom of the first: I'm under a canopy in the bleachers and hoping these little wet spots on my keyboard don't get serious. Noelle Wright on the mound for the Knights. Reynolds grounds out. Roberts gets ahead in the count 3-0, but then goes to a full count. She then flys out. Riomondo grounds out. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

Top of the first: Reynolds walks the first batter. Second batter lays down a bunt, Reynolds throws out at first but runner advances to third. Irrigon on the board. Sacrifice to the second basemen brings in a run. Pop to the second basemen for the final out. Irrigon 1, Union 0.

1 p.m.: It's an off and on rain. Just when you think it's slowing down it gets harder. Reynolds will start for Union on the mound.

12:45 p.m.: Rai, rain and more rain. It's wet and it only is getting wetter here in the Willamette Valley. I made it with an uneventful drive yesterday, but apparently I just missed the worse of it. Tornadoes, hail and lots of rain drenched the area. Expect some weather-caused errors in today's game.

We'll have a busy day. It appears there will be no delay here in Corvallis. But after this game I'll head up to Salem-Keizer for the Class 2A/1A baseball final which features Union and Umpqua Valley Christian at 5 p.m. I'll give you some inning by inning updates and try to get some pictures. Of course I'm wearing shorts and a polo shirt with no rain coat, so things will get interesting.

The maintenance crew is on the field doing what they can and we're about to here the starting line-ups and national anthem. Let's play ball!
