Local athletes raise the bar at Class 2A district track meet

Numerous athletes qualfied for the Class 2A/1A track meet in Monmouth May 21-22.

Imbler, Enterprise, Union, Elgin and Joseph will send qualifers to Monmouth after Friday's Wapiti District Meet at Eastern Oregon University.

The top two in each event plus state qualifiers head to Monmouth.

Elgin's Kelsey Davis and Amber Looslie will head to state in the 400-meter dash and 800 respectively.

Davis broke Looslie's 2002 record in the 400, finishing in 59.58 seconds.

Looslie broke Liz Woody's 2002 record in the 800. Looslie won the race in 2:18.39.

Enterprise's Krista Stangel broke records in the 1,500 and 3,000. Stangel broke Shannon Oliver's 1,500 record from 1980. Stangel finished in 5:00.50. Oliver's record was 5:02.80.

In the 3,000, Stangel broke her previous record from last year. Stangel finished in 10:59.88. Last year, Stangel's time was 11:34.70.

Union's Ashley Sharratt finished second in the 1,500 and 3,000.

Union's Sarah House qualified in the 100-meter dash and triple jump.

Imbler's Hannah Hall and Enterprise's Nicole Santiago will head to state in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Hall won the 100 hurdles, and Santiago won the 300 hurdles.

Joseph's Julie Butterfield and Elgin's Looslie qualified in the pole vault.

Hall also qualified for state in the javelin.

Boys

Joseph's Corey Otten qualified for state in the 100, 200 and 400. Otten won the 200 and 400 races.

Imbler's John Bartell finished second in the 1,500.

Joseph's Kyle Clough and Billy Garrison went 1-2 in the 3,000.

Enterprise's Tony Swart was second in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

The Elgin 4x100-meter relay team heads to state after finishing second behind Nyssa.

Joseph's and Enterprise's 4x400 relay teams will head to state.

Joseph's Cole Lathrop won the high jump with a 6-4 mark.

Elgin's Vance Horn was second in the pole vault at 12-6.

Enterprise's Craig Swart and Elgin's Seth Follett finished 1-2 in the discus.

Joseph's Kyle Hook won the javelin with a record 162-2 throw. Hook broke Marcus Wells 2002 record.
