MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: EOU falls in overtime
Tony Eackles Jr. tried to be the hero, hitting a big shot, but it wasn’t enough as the Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team dropped a conference contest at Northwest.
Eackles Jr. hit a 3-point basket with three seconds left to force the extra period, but the Eagles walked away with a 93-84 win Saturday.
Eackles Jr. led the Mountaineers with 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field, and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Trevor Phillips put in 16 points. Kalvin Johanson and Craig Tucker each finished with 12 points apiece. Deonta Edwards finished with 11 points.
In overtime, the Eagles used an 11-0 run to take a 85-76 lead with 38 seconds left in the game.
Michael Russo and Michael Greene led Northwest with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
The Mountaineers do not return to action until Dec. 20 at home against Southern Oregon University.
