HEAT DOESN'T HELP MINOR ALL-STAR BOYS IN OPENER

ADAMS — The La Grande All-Star Minors played a good game Saturday in the District 3 Little League Tournament according to their coach, but in the end, Pendleton and some fierce heat beat the local boys.

Pendleton won 6-2 in a game played in 100-degree heat.

In that game, La Grande pitcher Carson Miller had to be taken out of the game because of heat exhaustion.

Coach Mike Lanman said Miller turned out to be fine later, and after getting attention, was able to come back to the team's dugout to watch the game. He will play today in the second round of the tournament.

"We played 'em tough," said Miller. "The kids played great. They (Pendleton) just scored more runs."

Steven Talbot came in to pitch after Miller had to leave and gave up just a couple of runs. Talbot also had two hits.

The Minor All-Stars will play Pilot Rock today. The boys must win to stay alive in the tournament.
