MOUNTAINEERS BLANKED IN SOCCER OPENER
NAMPA, Idaho The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team was blanked by Northwest Nazarene in the 2004 Les Schwab Soccer Classic Thursday.
The Crusaders defeated the Mountaineers 3-0 in Eastern's season opener.
Twins Mandi and Megan Johnson scored the Crusaders' goals.
The Crusaders outshot the Mountaineers 14-8.
Mandi Johnson took a corner kick off the foot of Kameron Burch and sent it into the left side of the net in the 41st minute, while sister Megan scored early in the second half from the right side of the box after receiving a pass from Lexi Swenson.
The twins combined on the final goal. Megan sent a crossing pass across from the right side to Mandi, who connected with a left-footed shot that found the back of the net.
Eastern's Ashlee Fitch had four shots, while goalkeeper Sarah Androlewicz grabbed five saves.
In game one of the Classic, Central Washington blanked Albertson College 5-0.
All four schools return to action Saturday when Northwest Nazarene faces Albertson at noon and Central Washington plays Eastern at 2:30 p.m.
