MOUNTAINEERS COMBINE PRESENT LOOKS FOR NEW ATHLETIC LOGO

The votes are in no new Eastern Oregon University athletic logo won.

Following a month collecting votes and comments, the college recently announced it would not use any of three possible logos to represent the Mountaineers athletic department.

Instead, the university will use its established EOU logo and Mountaineers script signature together to form the new athletics moniker.

This comes after a month that saw more than 950 alumni, staff, students, faculty, athletes and others participate online in a vote for three logos that all featured a coonskin cap. The voting took place during February.

Of the 950-plus votes, half had comments that these (logos) werent very good representations of the university, said Tim Seydel, assistant vice president for university advancement.

The final decision was made by the EOU Presidents Council to use the already established EOU logo and the Mountaineers scrip signature, two symbols of the University that are being used on campus and in the athletic department, as the new athletics logo.

Eastern Athletic Director Rob Cashell is pleased with the outcome.

The scrip logo and EOU logo are very identifiable within our conference and our region, Cashell said.

Plus, its difficult to identify what a Mountaineer is. This decision makes life easier because we have already implemented the EOU logo and scrip in our department. What a Mountaineer is should be left to everyones imagination.
