MURRAYHILL KNOCKS OUT LA GRANDE

SALEM — Murrayhill Little League of Beaverton knocked the La Grande 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars out of the state tournament Sunday.

Murrayhill took a 4-0 victory in the losers bracket game; La Grande lost to the Medford Americans 9-7 in seven innings Saturday.

Details of Sunday's game were unavailable by The Observer's deadline, but La Grande rallied in the sixth inning Saturday to force extra innings.

"Overall I thought we played a pretty good game," La Grande manager Todd Nice said.

Josh Homan led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and Ammon Kohler walked. Tyler Zacharias tripled home both runs to bring La Grande within 7-6. After a strikeout, Anthony Nice singled home Zacharias to tie the game. La Grande loaded the bases but Medford got a ground out to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh, Medford used three hits to score two runs and take the lead for good.

La Grande led briefly after the second inning. Medford had taken a 1-0 lead in the first, but La Grande got a two-run single from Anthony Nice and an RBI-single from Zachary Nice to take a 3-1 advantage.

Medford tied it in the third, then took a 5-3 lead in the fourth.

Cody McKague's solo home run in the fifth cut the lead to one, but Medford added two more runs in the sixth.

La Grande had 11 hits, one more than Medford.

"We hit the ball exceptionally," manager Todd Nice said, "much better than we did in the district tournament."

Five errors in the first few innings allowed Medford to take its leads.

"Some of them were pretty costly," Todd Nice said. "They're 11 and 12 years old and they're going to make mistakes."

Medford beat Bend North 11-2 Sunday to reach Tuesday's winners bracket final against Parrish of Salem, which beat Brookings-Harbor 13-2.
