Mountaineer men start 7-0
SPOKANE, Wash. -— After defeating a pair of Frontier Conference teams last weekend in Spokane at the Frontier-Cascade Challenge, the Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team will put its 7-0 record on the line against two more Frontier teams this weekend in Helena, Mont., at the Carroll College Classic.
The Mountaineers will face Carroll Friday and Montana Tech Saturday.
Eastern Oregon won its seventh straight game Saturday with an 80-73 victory over the University of Great Falls in the Frontier-Cascade Challenge.
Trent Roos led the Mounties with a 24-point effort that included hitting six of eight shots from long range. Roos also was a perfect six for six at the free throw line.
Tony Eackles and Jason Mumm both added 13 points, while J.D. Esters added 12 points.
Marcel Towns led the Argos with 27 points, while James Holmes added 16 and T.J. Harris finished with 11 points.
The game was close, with the Mountaineers taking a 35-29 halftime lead.
The Argos got hot in the second half, hitting seven of nine three-point shots, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win.
EOU leashes ‘Dogs, 83-75
The Mounties defeated Montana Western by a score of 83-75 Friday in Spokane.
Jason Mumm led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds. Junior transfer Esters recorded a double-double on the night with 16 points and 10 assists.
