The Mountaineers volleyball team kept pace with the conference leaders over the weekend, picking up sweeps against Evergreen and Northwest Universities.

On Friday, Eastern Oregon University shelled the Geoducks 25-10, 25-16, 25-12.

The Mountaineers went deep into the bench during the win, with 16 players logging time on the floor.

“It’s nice to be able to get a lot of players into the game,” Mountaineers head coach Kaki Morehead said. “Our normal rotation gets a little more rest, and the younger players get on the court experience. It’s great for everyone.

“Still, we came out and took care of business. I was happy with the intensity we showed in both matches.”

In all, 13 players recorded a kill against Evergreen.

Grace DeBoodt led the way with 11 kills, and a team-high 11 digs.

Haley McEnroe finished with six kills.

Jessica Lea and Chelsea Herron finished with 20 and 10 assists, respectively.

Libero Katilyn Duncan notched nine digs.

Jazzmin Garcia led Evergreen with seven kills.

It took a little more effort Saturday, but the Mountaineers cruised past Northwest 25-15, 25-18, 25-14.

Lea tallied a team-high 11 kills and 17 assists. She added eight digs.

DeBoodt finished with nine kills.

Duncan recorded a team-high 10 digs.

Lisa Steinbach finished the weekend with two solo blocks and six assisted blocks.

Anu Amkamine led Northwest with eight kills.

The Mountaineers improved to 8-6 overall and 6-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with the win.

EOU will travel to the Oregon Institute of Technology Friday at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers end the road trip with a Saturday match against NAIA No. 16 Southern Oregon University.

“We just need to keep going out and try to get better,” Morehead said. “Our consistency can always get better. But we’re on the right track.”
