Mountaineers sweep Northwest Christian; Platz hits 12th dinger

EUGENE — Bring out the brooms. EOU softball swept its doubleheader at Northwest Christian Friday, 5-1, 8-4. Melodee Mildenberger (2-for-4, double) and Iris Woodhead (2-for-3) stood out along with Megan Platz (2-for-3), who hit her school-record 12th home run of the season. EOU starter Kelly West earned the game-one win, yielding just three hits through four innings. EOU went into extra innings in game two, yet pulled out the win, again. The Mountaineers broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth, scoring four times, and it was all started by Platz’s lead-off triple. Mildenberger (2-for-4) and Woodhead (3-for-4, home run, 2 RBI) led a team which improved to 16-20, 8-10 Cascade Conference. Next for EOU is Oregon Tech at home at 3 p.m. Friday.
