EOU sweeps Walla Walla in non-league contest

The Eastern Oregon women’s volleyball team defeated Walla Walla University 25-7, 25-12 and 25-6 Tuesday night at Quinn Coliseum.

Alisha Crane and Rebecca Haight led the Mountaineers (18-6, 10-4) in kills with seven each, while Katie Keeney and Casey Loper added six.  Karly Stack stirred the EOU offense as she dished out 17 assists while Kaitlyn Duncan recorded a match-high 11 digs.

In the first set the Mountaineers jumped out to an early 12-4 lead.  The Mountaineers then dominated the rest of the match, as they only allowed Walla Walla (2-20) to score a total of seven points in the set.

In the second game, the Wolves took an early 3-1 lead but it was short lived, as the Mountaineers went on an 11-1 run to take a 12-4 lead.  EOU controlled the rest of the match and won the game 25-12.

EOU came out strong in the third set as they jumped out to a commanding 10-1 lead. The Mountaineers then went on a 9-2 run and eventually finished the set and match with a final score of 25-6.

Kara Moon, Emily Allen and Courtney Zaro all had two kills for Walla Walla. Kelsie Schafer had three assists while Brooklyn Larson added six digs.

For Walla Walla, it was the 20th loss this season against just two wins.

The Mountaineers will look to continue their six-game winning streak as they go on the road to Portland to Warner Pacific Friday and at Concordia University Saturday.

The Mountaineers are in a battle with Concordia for third place — and the final home playoff berth.

Concordia currently leads the Mountaineers by a half-game in the standings with an 11-4 record.

The Mountaineers are still the only Cascade team to defeat College of Idaho, handing them a loss in La Grande earlier this month.

The Lady Yotes still lead the conference with a 13-1 record. Southern Oregon is second with a 12-2 record.

Warner Pacific is two games behind the Lady Mountaineers with a 9-6 record.

The Mountaineers will close out the regular season at home Nov. 2 and 3 against Oregon Institute of Technology and Southern Oregon University. The Lady Raiders handed EOU a 3-2 (25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 14-16)  loss the first time the two teams met in Ashland. If the Mountaineers can win the rest of the conference games, they would finish with a 14-4 Cascade record and a 22-6 season mark going into the post-season.
