No. 18 EOU puts win streak on the line

Quinn Coliseum has been a house of horrors for opponents of the Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team.

The 18th-ranked Mountaineers (5-2 overall) puts their 27-game winning streak at Quinn Coliseum on the line Saturday, hosting Walla Walla University (0-7) at 7 p.m.

The last home loss for the Mountaineers came on Jan. 7, 2012, when then-No. 22 Corban defeated EOU 73-59. The Moutaineers have won all three of their home games this season and were 17-0 at home last season.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with Eastern coming away with an 104-48 victory on Oct. 22. Taylor Riley led the way for EOU with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting and she collected a team-high with nine rebounds in the win. The EOU defense clamped on the Wolves, limiting Walla Walla to just 26.1 percent from the flow for the game. The Mountaineers shot 54 percent for the game and forced 27 turnovers.

The Wolves come into the contest after falling to Pacific University 86-56 on Thursday. They enter Thursday night's contest with a record of 0-7. Walla Walla is averaging 39.3 points per game and are shooting 27.1 percent from the floor, while allowing opponents to shoot 50.4 percent from the floor and score 91.3 points per game.

Last weekend, the Mountaineers went and participated in the first annual Simpson Classic. Eastern Oregon went 1-1 in its two games at the classic. EOU was defeated by Hope International University 83-50, but rebounded the next night with a 69-47 victory over Simpson University. Brittney Newcomb led the way for EOU against Simpson as she scored a game-high 29 points.
