After disappointing losses to Southern Oregon last weekend, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers softball team came out hitting Friday against the Albertson Coyotes.

Eastern smacked 19 total hits in a 6-5, 10-2 sweep of the Coyotes. The Mountaineers improved to 10-12 overall, 6-4 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, while the Coyotes fell to 7-27 and 0-10.

"Today our bench did an incredible job," Eastern coach Anji Weissenfluh said.

The bench came through with runners in scoring position and in pressure situations, she said.

In the first game, pinch hitter Beth Hull singled down the left field line in the bottom of the third driving in pinch runner Nikki Schultz from third. Moments later, pinch runner Amber Jamison stole home giving Eastern a 4-0 lead.

The Coyotes came back in the top of the seventh with two outs. Nicole Glenn singled to right sending home Kira Leaton. Then Heather Keepers doubled to left driving in three runs leaving Eastern clinging to a 6-5 lead. The Coyotes scored one run in the fifth.

Melissa Finlayson flied out to end the threat.

In the second game, Eastern racked up three runs in the bottom of the second off singles by Adrienne Fullmer and Nicole Landstrom.

Hull came in to pinch hit again, and she started a seven-run fourth inning for Eastern. Hull singled to left field, driving in Megan Brock from second. After a Landstrom single and Tonilynn Reardon walk, pinch hitter Megan Kaas singled to right driving in Missy Bonanno from third.

Landstrom scored after an error by left fielder Heather McClure. Katie Martin singled to send home Reardon. Katelyn Tatum singled driving in Majalise Watson. Pinch runner Amber Jamison scored on a throwing error by pitcher Lindzi Wasko. Fullmer capped the scoring run with a single up the middle driving in Martin.

Martin picked up two more wins, and she also went 4-for-7, with two doubles and four RBIs on the day.

Eastern visits Concordia today in Portland.
