ONTARIO OUTWRESTLES LA GRANDE IN DUAL
ONTARIO With two varsity wrestlers out because of illness, the La Grande Tigers had no margin for the mistakes they made in Tuesdays dual meet against Ontario.
Chaney Parker and Jacob Cox, La Grandes 171- and 189-pounders, were sick Tuesday.
That ended up making five forfeits on our side, La Grande coach Miles Hancock said.
The Tigers won two of the nine matches they wrestled and lost 66-14 to Ontario.
Three of the losses were close and winnable, Hancock said. At 119, Austin Zander lost a 6-1 decision to Jeremiah Hernandez. Levi Hug fell in overtime, 7-5, to Ace Sosa at 125. And Travis Carson lost to Todd Smith 5-3 at 152.
Those losses were a little disappointing because they were simply outwrestled tonight by three opponents they can compete with, Hancock said. Its close competition; theyre just making some mistakes.
Hancock moved third-ranked Adam Kleck from 160 to 171 pounds, where he beat Ontarios Bobby King, who is ranked 10th at 160.
He was a bigger opponent and he pushed him real hard right from start to finish, Hancock said.
Dennis OReilly filled in at 160 and won La Grandes other match, a 12-2 major decision over Luke Fields.
OReilly did a really good job stepping up into the varsity spot and wrestled a really good match, Hancock said.
La Grande next wrestles Friday and Saturday at a 16-team tournament in Weiser, Idaho.
