The score was closer, but the result was still the same.
Pendleton held off La Grande 3-0 Friday afternoon here at Pioneer Park for the District 3 Girls Little League Majors Softball Tournament championship.
The win came one day after Pendleton beat La Grande 14-1 in four innings, forcing a second game since La Grande hadnt lost a contest entering the title round of the tournament.
As in Thursdays game, Pendleton was able to hit the ball easily, racking up nine hits including three from Shanna Treloar and a pair from Alexis Humphrey.
The other similarity to the first contest was Pendletons ability to take an early lead.
La Grande pitcher Tasha Tams caught an infield pop-up for the first out in the bottom of the first inning and threw out Brittney Oles at first base for a double play, but Treloar made it to base safely off an error on the next at bat.
Humphrey then knocked a double out to center field, scoring Treloar.
Pendleton added two more runs in the third inning when Swearingen hit a leadoff single. She scored on a Treloar double, followed by Treloar stealing third base.
Jennifer Swearingen was walked to put runners at the corners, and Treloar scored when La Grande tried to catch Swearingen stealing second base.
La Grande had a tough time finding its offense. Its two best chances to score came in the second inning when Cali Wetstein was issued a leadoff walk, but was thrown out immediately getting to first base when she took a couple steps off base and was looking to second base.
Tia Rhodes followed with a single an made it to second on a passed ball. Two batters later, Tams singled and stole second base to put runners on second and third, but Humphrey pitched up one of her nine strikeouts to end the frame.
La Grandes final opportunity came in the top of the sixth inning when Kelsey Steele led off with a single down the left-field line.
After an out, Lindsey Willis singled and stole second base, but once again La Grande stranded both runners when Bailey Ackleys hit was caught and Wetstein was caught looking for a third strike and the final out.
