PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: La Grande boys split in Pendleton

PENDLETON — An early start may have led the a sluggish game for the La Grande boys basketball team at the Red Lion Tournament in Pendleton Saturday. 

An 8:15 a.m. start time against Clarkston, Idaho led to a 64-32 loss.

La Grande stayed in the game until the half, trailing 22-15. But, Clarkston pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 42-17. 

Jake Powell paced the Tigers with 10 points in the game. Troy Williams finished with seven.

La Grande will play its home opener Tuesday against Vale. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

On Friday, the Tigers picked up their first win of the season, knocking off Pasco, Wash., 59-36.

Tyson Wicklander had a team-high 13 points, and Williams added 12 points. 

Brandon Dall also hit double figures with 11 points. 

La Grande jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead, and held an 18-10 advantage after the first quarter.
