PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Tigers grab a pair of wins in Pendleton
PENDLETON — The La Grande girls basketball team collected its second straight win, knocking off Clarkston, Idaho, at the Red Lion Tournament in Pendleton Saturday.
The Tigers had to show their toughness during the game, losing Lexus Miller-Moylan late in the second quarter, and nursing a 23-18 lead.
Clarkston evened the game at 30-all after three quarters, but
Auslin McDaniel-Perrin came off the bench to score 12 in the game and played solid defense.
La Grande made its free throws down the stretch, finishing 15-of-19 from the charity stripe, walking away with a four-point win.
Avery Albrecht added a team-high 13 points.
La Grande will return to action at home Dec. 17 against Umatilla. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
Friday, Lexus Miller-Moylan made a big statement after missing the opening game of the season due to lack of practices.
Miller-Moylan not only showcased her offensive ability, but showed she can make an impact on defense during a 59-50 win against Pasco, Wash. The junior finished with 16 points and had seven steals in the game.
LHS trailed 21-17 at the half, but used a third quarter run to create some breathing room. The Tigers outscored Pasco 21-10 in the third quarter with a defensive switch. La Grande went to a full-court pressure defense, and created havoc in the passing lanes with Miller-Moylan and Haley White leading the effort.
Avery Albrecht added 17 points and six rebounds for the Tigers. Kylin Coleman added nine points and six rebounds.
