PREP SWIMMING: LHS boys place second in Baker

The La Grande Tigers competed in the Baker Invitational Saturday, with the boys bringing home a second-place finish.

“The team performed very well. We had several swimmers out sick, but the rest of the team stepped up and raced,”  Tigers coach Darren Dutto said.

The girls took third place.

Sophomore Keegan Dutto was the lone double winner for La Grande, taking first in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. Freshman Tony Clay grabbed first in the 200 individual medley and third in the 500-freestyle.  Sophomore Bryce Ebel took first in the 50 freestyle. Dutto, Clay and Ebel combined with Emmitt Ambert to take second in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.  Ambert placed third in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 50 freestyle. Freshman Trevor Hoffman took fourth in the 100 butterfly and freshman Wyatt Perry took sixth in the 100 backstroke.

The girls had two double event winners.  Sophomore Abbey Felley took first in the 200 and 500 freestyle races, winning each race by a large margin.  Sophomore Hannah Roberts took first in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

“Hannah posted excellent times for this early in the season,” Dutto said.

Roberts and Felley combined with Moriah Brown and Erin Bodfish to take first in the 200 medley relay and second in the 200 freestyle relay. Junior Shelby Baker was the final girls’ winner, taking first in the 50 freestyle.

Brown had a “solid performance,” according to Dutto, placing second in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle.  Senior Lian Neeley also swam well, placing fourth in the 200 individual medley. Bodfish took fourth in both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

The Tigers host a swim meet this Saturday at the Veterans’ Memorial Pool. Events start at noon.
