Athletes are saving their best run and leap for the Class 2A/1A state track meet Friday and Saturday at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.
Of the eight schools in Union and Wallowa counties, at least two state qualifiers will be vying for a medal or overall title. Several schools have a shot at winning a team title.
On the girls' side, Elgin's Amber Looslie will face stiff competition in the 800-meter run. Looslie has the fastest time in the state at the 2A level (2 minutes, 19:03 seconds).
Looslie is seeded first in the 800 for state. Right on her heels will be Sherman County's Erin Funkhouser (2:21.23) and Culver's Katelyn Alley (2:23.12).
Looslie's teammate Kelsey Davis is seeded second in the 400 (59.58). Amity's Leada Berkey is first (58.87). Davis is seeded seventh in the 200 (27.27).
Pine-Eagle's Abby Morrison is seeded third (59.65).
Morrison and Union's Sarah House will face off in the 100-meter dash. Morrison is seeded third (13.08), while House has a No. 6 seed (13.28).
House is also seeded fifth in the triple jump (34-06.75).
Enterprise's Krista Stangel and Union's Ashley Sharratt are seeded in the top 11 in the 1,500 and 3,000.
Caitlin Gabel's Jolee Van Leuven has the fastest 1,500 time heading into state at (4:44.48). Stangel is fifth at 5:00.50 and Sharratt is 11th at 5:12.24.
In the 3,000 race, Myrtle Point's Lacy Looney has the quickest time (10:56.60). Stangel is second (10:59.88) and Sharratt is eighth at 11:46.09.
Imbler's Hannah Hall is seeded 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (17.61). Enterprise's Nicole Santiago is seeded sixth in the 300 hurdles (49.32), with Hall at 12th (51.08).
Hall is also seeded 17th in the javelin.
Looslie and Joseph's Julie Butterfield are seeded in the top 4 in the pole vault. Butterfield has the No. 2 spot at 9-0, while Looslie is fourth with an 8-6 mark.
Joseph's Corey Otten qualified for state in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter runs.
Otten is ranked fifth in the 100 (11.45), 15th in the 200 (23.85) and ninth in the 400 (52.32).
Otten's teammate Tristan Patton is seeded 13th in the 400 (53.50).
Imbler's John Bartell is 12th in the 1,500 (4:21.69).
Joseph's Kyle Clough is 10th in the 3,000 (9:57.37) and Union's Billy Garrison is 14th (10:02.54).
Enterprise's Tony Swart is ninth in the 110 hurdles (16.72) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (42.18).
Elgin's 4x100-meter relay team is 10th out of 11 teams.
Joseph's 4x400-meter relay squad is third (3:34.40), with Enterprise sixth (3:37.34). Scio has the fastest time at 3:31.28.
Enterprise's Craig Swart is 11th and Elgin's Seth Follett is 12th in the discus throw.
Joseph's Kyle Hook is fourth in the javelin (162-02) and Enterprise's Brinn Jones is ninth (152-09).
Joseph's Cole Lathrop has the second-highest high jump mark at 6-4. Sheridan's Lance Aldrich has the top mark at 6-5.
Elgin's Vance Horn is seeded seventh in the pole vault (12-6).
Powder Valley's Joelle Bain is seeded fifth in the 100, third in the 200 and fifth in the long jump.
Bain's teammate Ashley Dozhier is seventh in the 100.
Cove's Julia Scheele is fourth in the 400. Powder Valley's Shauna Nelson is fifth in the 800. Nelson won the 800 last year.
Wallowa's Hayley Oveson has the fastest time in the 1,500 (5:05.85). Nelson is sixth (5:21.44).
Oveson also has the fastest 3,000 time (11:09.35). Powder Valley's Tara Fuhrman is eighth (12:56.76).
Hayley Oveson won the 1,500 and 3,000 last year.
In the 100 hurdles, Powder Valley's Hailee Bingham is sixth and Wallowa's Mysha Oveson is 10th at 17.89. Bingham is eighth in the 300 hurdles.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Wallowa is eighth and Powder Valley is ninth. Powder Valley is fifth and Wallowa is sixth in the 4x400.
Wallowa's Lynique Oveson is second in the javelin (120-9). Echo's Jessica Zita has the top throw at 120-11.
Cove's Lissa Firor has the top high jump at 5-0 and Nelson is eighth at 4-11.
Bingham is seeded fourth in the pole vault.
Powder Valley's Arden Perkins is third in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
Wallowa's Nick Johnson is seventh in the 800.
In the 110 hurdles, Cove's Raage Sofe is third (16.80) and Wallowa's Dustin Byers is seventh (17.20).
Mitchell's Dustin Cloud has the top 110 hurdles time at 15.56. Byers is seventh in the 300 hurdles.
The Powder Valley 4x100-meter relay team is second at 44.81. On the relay are Cody Taylor, Sean Lynch, Todd Baxter and Perkins.
North Clackamas has the fastest 4x100 relay time at 44.51. Wallowa's 4x400 relay team is seeded fourth.
Defending state champion Baxter is first in the shot put and discus. Cove's Tom VanNice is sixth in the shot put. Baxter has a throw of 49-8.50 in the shot put and 150-7 in the discus.
Taylor is seeded first in the pole vault (12-9).
