No, it’s not the Civil War with battles fought between households. However, the Shriners East-West All-Star football game does pit a father against a son.
Union’s Dale Andrews is one of the East’s team managers.
Andrews serves as a greenskeeper at the Buffalo Peak Golf Course. But, for the next week, he will help the East team prepare for its Saturday showdown in Baker City.

this Chief Joseph Days rodeo Saturday night.

JOSEPH — Colby Reilly earned 86 points in the bull riding event Friday night at the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo.
Ad Bugenig edged Jeb Knox by one point in the saddle bronc event.
In the bareback riding event, Steven Peebles, Dan Webb and Jason Sherman each recorded 81-point finishes.

JOSEPH — On the second night of the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo, Shawn Morehead took the lead in the Saddle Bronc contest (74), moving one point ahead of second place Ben Londo.
In the team roping event, the bloodline combination of Riley Minor and Brady Minor gained sole possession of first place, finishing the event in 6.1 seconds.
Action will resume at Harley Tucker Memorial Arena in Joseph tonight at 7.

Londo won the bareback riding event (70 points), as well as the Saddle Bronc (73).
Tony Mendes won the bull riding event, posting 84 points, and was also the lone rider who stayed atop the bucking bull for eight seconds.

But the La Grande 9/10-year-old Little League All-Star team dug a hole too deep to climb out of Saturday.
The local all-stars’ bid of a state title fell short with 12-2 loss to Bend South.

The 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team fell to Snake River Valley 20-8 in the opening round of bracket play.
Union County closed to within a run, 6-5, after scoring three times in the third inning.

But throw in nine errors into the game and there’s a different outcome.
Union County dropped its opening game in the 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star State Tournament with a 10-0 loss to Hermiston Wednesday.

WALLA WALLA — Five games, no substitutes and very little rest
translated into a sixth -place finish for Legacy Ford at the Walla
Walla tournament.
The Mustangs defeated King Nissan Saturday, 9-3, handing the opponent
its first loss of the tournament. Kaden Titus earned the win on the
mound, while Evan Humphrey and Travis Ludwig each went 3-for-4.
“Kaden pitched really well that game,” Mustangs manager Eric Yundt
said. “He kept the ball down, forced them into a lot of ground balls.”
