3A/2A/1A Cross Country: Union girls make it three straight

The Union girls cross country team made it three in a row Saturday, capturing the 3A/2A/1A girls state championship at Lane Community College in Eugene.

Quick scores spark Eastern to easy win

It didn’t take long for the Eastern Oregon football team to squash any hopes of a Dickinson State upset bid.

Eastern Oregon wraps up home schedule against Dickinson State

EOU wide receiver Justin Hernandez, left, will try to help the Mountaineers win their fourth game of the season Saturday against Dickinson State.

The Eastern Oregon University football team wraps up its home schedule at noon against Dickinson State Saturday at Community Stadium.

The Mountaineers (3-5 overall, 3-4 Frontier Conference) have won three of four games after an 0-4 start, while Dickinson State (1-9 overall, 0-8 FC) has dropped three straight games.

Suiaunoa has gone from high school coach to EOU coordinator

The Frontier Conference isn’t known for its defense. The conference is more about yards and points in bunches.

But for the past four seasons, Eastern Oregon University Defensive Coordinator Levi Suiaunoa’s job has been trying to stop, or at least slow down, the potent offenses of the Frontier Conference’s elite teams.

Leopards season ends in Dufur

A promising season for the Cove Leopards came to an abrupt close Wednesday in Dufur, as the host Rangers chalked up a three-game sweep in 1A state sub-round volleyball playoff action at Dufur High School.

While still with a loaded roster, so much is in question based on the recovery from knee surgery to Hailey Hulse and the recent move to the 2A classification.

EOU looks to keep national appeal up with new coach

EOU’s Kalvin Johanson and his team will try to stay at the top of the Cascade Conference under new head coach Jared Barrett.

Mountaineers host Quinn Classic this weekend

It won’t take long looking out at the floor or at the Eastern Oregon men’s basketball bench to see how much things have changed.

Massive makeover

The Moutaineers and Tayor Riley (24) were picked to finish at the top of the Cascade Conference along with The College of Idaho this season.

EOU shuffles in new group into starting line-up this season

Despite a new-look team, the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers women’s basketball squad enters this season riding its strong reputation.

EOU was selected No. 18 in the preseason coaches’ poll despite graduating five of its top six scorers from last season.

Panthers lead pack in all-league selections

Imbler senior Clint Porter made the second team all-league as a tight end, which is voted on by the league’s coaches. The Panthers have the week off before the start of the state playoffs.

The coaches met over the weekend and selected the Old Oregon League all-league team.

Imbler, the top team in the league, finished with eight first-team selections.

Bobcat dynasty

Union cross country runners McKenzie Evans and Katriel O’Reilly (pictured) have helped the Bobcats to back-to-back state titles the past two seasons. They’ll be going for a three-peat Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene.

Friendship helps Union vie for another state title

Union residents don’t know what they almost missed out on. The dynasty that is Bobcat girls cross country, nine state titles, and counting, almost never hit another upward cycle due to a lack of loving the sport.

McKenzie Evans gave cross country one practice, but then called it quits.

Mace stepping down as La Grande football coach

La Grande will be looking for a new head football coach next season, with Kenny Mace stepping down Monday.

The unfortunate cycle at La Grande High School will continue. After two seasons serving as the head coach of the Tigers football team, Kenny Mace will be moving to Salem.

La Grande will now be looking for its fourth head coach in five years.
