IMBLER — A few things stood between the Imbler volleyball team and a trip to Ridgeview High School in Redmond to compete for the Class 1A state championships Saturday.

The tallest obstacle was C.S. Lewis Academy’s 6-foot-2 hitter Hannah Schmeltzer.


Class 1A Volleyball: No. 3 Imbler off to state

The third-ranked Imbler volleyball team punched its ticket to the Class 1A state tournament Saturday, easily dropping C.S. Lewis Academy, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, in a Class 1A state playoff game at Imbler High School.


Class 2A Volleyball: Union season comes to an end

The 13th-ranked Union volleyball team saw its season come to an end Saturday, falling in four sets to Delphian in a Class 2A state playoff at Union High School.


4A Volleyball: Tigers punch ticket to state

The 11th-ranked La Grande volleyball team punched its ticket to the Class 4A state tournament, drubbing Siuslaw Saturday 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 in a playoff at La Grande High School.


4A Cross Country: La Grande girls finish 13th

La Grande’s Amanda Welch posted a top-20 finish Saturday at the Class 4A girls state cross country meet at Lane Community College in Eugene.


3A/2A/1A Cross Country: Union girls make it three straight

The Union girls cross country team made it three in a row Saturday, capturing the 3A/2A/1A girls state championship at Lane Community College in Eugene.

It didn’t take long for the Eastern Oregon football team to squash any hopes of a Dickinson State upset bid.

The Eastern Oregon University football team wraps up its home schedule at noon against Dickinson State Saturday at Community Stadium.

The Mountaineers (3-5 overall, 3-4 Frontier Conference) have won three of four games after an 0-4 start, while Dickinson State (1-9 overall, 0-8 FC) has dropped three straight games.


Suiaunoa has gone from high school coach to EOU coordinator

The Frontier Conference isn’t known for its defense. The conference is more about yards and points in bunches.

But for the past four seasons, Eastern Oregon University Defensive Coordinator Levi Suiaunoa’s job has been trying to stop, or at least slow down, the potent offenses of the Frontier Conference’s elite teams.


Leopards season ends in Dufur

A promising season for the Cove Leopards came to an abrupt close Wednesday in Dufur, as the host Rangers chalked up a three-game sweep in 1A state sub-round volleyball playoff action at Dufur High School.

While still with a loaded roster, so much is in question based on the recovery from knee surgery to Hailey Hulse and the recent move to the 2A classification.
