Hallgarth, Huskies halt Knights

ELGIN — While the Elgin girls basketball team had trouble scoring the ball, the boys team had absolutely no problem in a 76-35 route of Irrigon Saturday night.

“I was really impressed with how the kids played,” Elgin coach Casey Hallgarth said. “We never let up and we kept hustling until the very end.”

Elgin started the game on a 6-0 run, then stretched the lead to 11-2 halfway through the opening quarter.

Huskies split overtime affairs over the weekend

ELGIN -— In a game where points were scarce, the Elgin girls basketball team needed overtime to put away the Irrigon Knights 35-27.

Both teams got off to a slow start, with Elgin leading 6-2 after the first quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter, as the zone defense seemed to slow down the offenses on both sides.

The Huskies took an 8-5 lead into halftime. Elgin made some adjustments at halftime and came out moving the ball up court with a fast pace to take a 17-11 lead after the third quarter.
