IMBLER — Confidence goes a long way in football. Slowly, Imbler is getting its swagger back.

Junior Bryan Mills made a full return against Sherman County in a big way during a 68-18 win Friday.

Three of his first four passes went for touchdowns.

“(Bryan) is an exciting athlete to watch,” Panther head coach Lee Lowe said. “He’s a big part of our puzzle. The team had more confidence with him out on the field.”

Sophomore Zach Phillips caught two of the touchdown strikes. The first came on a 53-yard strike. On the second, Imbler took a delay of game penalty before taking a snap. All it amounted to was padding Mills and Phillips’ stats. The next play went 46 yards for a touchdown.

“(Zach) has really come on strong for us,” Lowe said. “He’s helped us on both sides of the ball. I’m really happy with how he has progressed, and I’m excited to see what he’s going to do in the future.”

If Friday was any indication, it’s going to be a lot of scoring.

Phillips accounted for six of the 10 Panthers’ touchdowns.

He caught two, rushed three and recovered a fumble for a score.

Phillips finished with 200 yards of total offense. He caught three passes for 138 yards. Phillips rushed six time for 62 yards.

Imbler (2-1) did all this minus two starting players — Nick West and Brent Teeter.

The Panthers are off this week before opening district play against Wallowa Sept. 26.

“That should give us enough time to get healthy,” Lowe said. “Hopefully no one else gets hurt during practice, and we can start the district season at full strength.”

Mills finished 10-of-14 passing with 308 yards and four touchdowns.

Joseph runs over shorthanded Arlington

JOSEPH — The Eagles’ snowball continued to build despite warm conditions Friday.

Grant Marcum and the Joseph football team ran over Arlington 56-0.

Marcum did most of the work in the first half, scoring five touchdowns.
