Panthers advance to state semifinals

PERRYDALE — The Panthers took advantage of turnovers during a 46-8 win against Perrydale Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A football playoffs.

Imbler opened the game with a strong running attack, gaining 161 yards in the first quarter.

The Panthers senior Bryan Mills followed up a 10-yard touchdown pass to Zach Phillips with a 27-yard touchdown run.

Mills returned an interception 22 yards to move out in front 24-0 lead following a Wesley Burgess two-point conversion run.

That warmed up Burgess’ legs for the ensuing drive.

Perrydale drove inside the Panthers’ 10-yard line.

Burgess scooped up a fumbler and returned it 88 yards for a touchdown.

Mills ended the day with two interceptions.

Burgess finished with 116 yards on 18 carries.

Mills added 93 yards rushing on nine attempts.

The Panthers will face Triad at Summit High School in Bend at noon Saturday.

Triad defeated Sherman 62-12 in the quarterfinals.
