Panthers lock up top seed, Cove enters second-place playoff

IMBLER — The Panthers volleyball team picked up a pair of wins to finish the regular season schedule Friday and Saturday.

Imbler opened the weekend with a 25-16, 25-20, 27-29, 25-14 win against Pine Eagle.

Reva West collected five aces on 24-of-25 serving. She also added 21 assists.

Kira Poe led the team with 10 kills.

Sarah Bowers tallied nine kills and 18 digs.

Demetria Thompson and Chelsea Poe each finished with eight kills.

Kira Poe continued to collect kills, recording 16 against Wallowa.

“Kira has been a solid player all year long,” Imbler head coach Jennifer Teeter said. “It just seems like she’s getting more involved on the offensive end right now.

“She found the holes in the block, and was able to utilize tipping the ball when it was open.”

The Panthers won the match 23-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-20.

West had 30 assists in the match, and Thompson finished with 10 kills.

Imbler will wait to see how the league playoff bracket looks following a playoff game between Cove and Powder Valley tonight in Union at 6 p.m.


Leopards surge as

 season winds down

COVE —  The Leopards picked up a pair of wins to keep pace with Powder Valley in the Old Oregon League standings this weekend.

Cove defeated Wallowa Friday 25-18, 24-26, 28-26, 25-20.

Jamie Murchison and Tierra Prince each had seven kills.

Prince added five solo and four assisted blocks. She also tied for the team lead in digs with Sadi Bars with 15.

Saturday, the whole team chipped in for a 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 win against Joseph.

Seven players recorded a kill, led by Murchison with six.

Marlee Asmussen recorded five.

Prince finished with six digs.

The down side was a three-game loss to Pine Eagle Thursday 25-17, 25-13, 25-23.

Prince had five kills to lead the Leopards.
