Platz sets all-time homer mark; Mounties sweep

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Eastern Oregon University has a new home-run king.

Megan Platz belted her 11th dinger of the season Tuesday, breaking the all-time single season home run record, as her Mounties swept Walla Walla College, 11-5, 14-2.

EOU starting pitcher Kelly West earned the win in game one, and Emma Hubbard did the same in game two.

Along with Platz, the following Mounties stood out at the plate: Michelle St. John (5-for-10, home run); Megan Monaghan (4-for-5); Lydia Holm (4-for-8, 6 RBI, two home runs — both in game two); Melodee Mildenberger (3-for-5); Teri Cisler (3-for-6, home run)

“It was just a good day,” EOU coach Missy Wheeler said. “We had some offensive production, which is what we’ve been missing lately.”

Mildenberger also finished game two by striking out four of the six batters she faced.

EOU resumes action Friday at Northwest Christian College at 3 p.m. in Eugene.
